About me

Hi! I’m Carly Akoury, a Senior at Clemson University majoring in Spanish and International Health. I’m set to graduate on May 8, 2025. Afterward, I’ll be working as a server at R Lazy S Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming until October. Once my summer out west wraps up I plan to move to Charlotte to start a career in product sales, specifically medical or pharmaceutical sales.

Clemson has always been a dream come true for me. Ever since I was 10 years old, I had my heart set on attending. Some of you might wonder how this Boston girl stumbled upon Clemson University. Well, here’s my story: every year my family takes a Christmas trip to a tropical destination, and during our first trip in 2014, we met the McClure family. They’re from Greenville, South Carolina, just 40 minutes from Clemson, and their family bleeds orange and purple. The bond between our families was instant. From that point, we began taking annual trips together. It was during these trips that I learned about Clemson, and I quickly became captivated by the school's tight-knit community and vibrant culture. The McClure family’s enthusiasm, especially their oldest daughter Kimberly, who graduated from Clemson in 2019, left a lasting impression. The way Kim talked about the “Clemson Family” made it clear to me that it was a community I wanted to be a part of. Her experiences truly inspired me to pursue Clemson, and by the time I was a senior in high school, I knew I was applying. The only decision left was what to study.
When I was figuring out what I wanted to study at Clemson, I always knew I was drawn to the healthcare field, and I had a passion for learning about new cultures, traveling, and language. Spanish and International Health made perfect sense for me because it allowed me to explore all of these passions. While I didn’t have a clear picture of exactly what I wanted to do with my future, I knew this major was a great start. Now, as a senior in college, I’ve finally decided what career I want to pursue. I’m aiming to work in product sales, like medical or pharmaceuticals sales.

Throughout my time at Clemson, I've gained valuable skills and experiences that have shaped my academic and professional growth. My major in Spanish and International Health has provided me with a strong healthcare foundation, cultural competency, and language proficiency. Giving numerous presentations has strengthened my public speaking and communication skills, essential qualities for a career in product sales. Additionally, my experiences traveling and interacting with diverse populations have given me a unique perspective on healthcare and patient needs. For example, during my internship in Spain, I worked closely with patients from various cultural backgrounds, helping me develop the ability to connect with people from all walks of life and understand their individual healthcare needs.

My core values of perseverance, adaptability, and commitment align perfectly with my professional goals. Perseverance has helped me stay dedicated to my goals, even when faced with challenges, such as adapting to a new environment while studying abroad in Seville, Spain. Adaptability has enabled me to thrive in unfamiliar situations, like adjusting to my internship in a clinic in Spain. Commitment drives me to stay focused on my mission to improve healthcare communication and outcomes through my career in product sales. These values not only shape who I am as a person but also align seamlessly with my aspirations in the industry.

In conclusion, my academic background, combined with my communication skills and cultural awareness, has prepared me for a fulfilling career in product sales. I am excited to apply these skills in my future role and continue growing as a professional!
